BRUTO

   Chris looked up. "I saw him. His face. It was all . . . "
   Bella leaned forward. "All, what?"
   "Hair."
   Bella laughed. "You mean he has a beard. Lots of men wear them nowadays."
   "No. Not like that. He was . . . "
   Bella fetched a pad and pencil. "Draw him."
  Chris does so.
   Bella picked up the drawing with a frown.
   "This is the face of an animal."

  The artist, Claire Roberts, created the above pen & ink drawing from the author's pencil sketch at right. Both illustrations are featured in the book.
